The Final Peace Agreement of 2016 put an end to many decades of armed conflict between the Colombian government and the most important rebel group of the FARC. The peace accord not only contains a wide series of measures to develop a non-violent and peaceful society, but also comprises an elaborate system of transitional justice measures to address the horrendous crimes of the past. This Comprehensive System of Transitional Justice provides a major space for the Special Jurisdiction for Peace (SJP - Jurisdicción Especial para la Paz - JEP), which combines retributive and restorative components to address the many serious human rights violations committed during the armed conflict. The SJP thus introduces a novelty in the field of transitional justice, as it is the very first time that a judicial organ set up to prosecute and try offenders of serious human rights violations makes use of restorative principles and practices.…
